VIDEO ART FROM GERMANY
ANIMATION WORKSHOP (2 days)
11.-14.11. 2007

The exciting teaching excursion the beautiful island of Penang, started with Hannes Rall guiding a tour through the exhibtion „Video Art from Germany“ referencing the connections with German history and the trends and tendencies in video art through the decades.

Concepts of non linear storytelling and experimental filmmaking were discussed in lively conversations with the attending students, many of whom hadn´t seen anything remotely similar before.

In the following days he was again teaching the basic principles of animation, this time together with his colleague from NTU, Prof. Eileen Reynolds-bringing the stop motion component of animation to the table.

This combination of teachers from different fields was met with great enthusiasm by the students from the Digtal Media program at Universiti Sains Malaysia. It is remarkable, how their attention never droppped, mostly not wanting to let go of their teachers before 8 pm-with their schedule starting at 9 in the morning.

At the end of the seminar, each student received a certificate of participation, but much more important, everybody seemed to thoroughly enjoy the experience and have a lot of fun.
